One day in 2006 I came upon a little paper-back book titled The Practice of the Presence of God, which is about Brother Lawrence. Something caused me to pick it up and start reading.
This site - Awareness of God's Presence - is an outgrowth of that reading.
The site is about a very simple practice that I stumbled upon and believe is suitable for anyone who would wish to seek or to extend their relationship with the Divine.
If you find this site interesting or rewarding, I hope you will share it with others.
Best wishes to you,
Who Is Avary Wun?
"Avary Wun", if you have not already guessed, is my pseudonym.
I won’t bore you with my personal religious history except to say that I have thought of myself at various times as a Protestant Christian, an unbeliever, an agnostic, an atheist, a Buddhist, an indifferent, and, now, simply a Christian. I’m not trained nor well read in theology. I’ve read the Koran in English translation. I thought of myself at one time as a practicing Buddhist and know something about the form of Buddhism practiced in Thailand.
My general orientation is toward science, observation, factual reporting and skepticism. I take up very little of my life in religious matters, but feel compelled to share with others — yes, you, Dear Reader — a practice that I think of as "awareness of God's presence."
I've tried to describe accurately in these website pages the following:
- the experience I had in 2006, it's impact on me, and my initial understanding of it,
- the practice that flowed naturally from that experience,
- how the initial experience and subsequent practice has changed my life,
- my understanding of the experience and how I do this practice.
I offer the content of this website as a data point, a report, or a case study. I'm not trying to change your beliefs, but simply report as accurately as I can — from my perspective — an experience and a practice that I have found valuable and to share it with you in the hope that it will serve some good.
